About Us
Our Story
How did we
get here?
Peterborough Mountaineering Club was formed in 1954 by local enthusiasts, ranging in age from 18 to over 80. We regularly visit mountain areas of Britain, including the Peak District, Wales, the Lake District, Pembroke, Swanage, the south coast, Northumberland and the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Club activities have included walking, caving, climbing, scrambling, and many social events.
Each summer members travel to the Alps, Fontainebleau and to the sunny crags of Spain and Southern France. In recent years members have also been as far afield as Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand and Central Africa in search of adventure.
Social activities are held throughout the year and future events will include the Presidents summer BBQ, the ‘chilli bash’, a Christmas dinner at the cottage in Wales, slide shows, the awards ceremony, the quiz night and the annual dinner at which all members are obliged to enjoy themselves.
The club prides itself on being friendly and open to newcomers, supporting and encouraging members with competitions, novice weekends and training courses covering a variety of related subjects such as first aid, navigation and climbing and rescue techniques.
