lake district scramble – July 2026

Mid June saw 10 PMC members gather at Clive’s cottage for the annual scrambling meet, with a few even taking advantage of the unusually great weather by coming up a day early to get some climbing in.

Saturday’s plan of action was a day of scrambling, SourmilkGill, Seathwaite Upper Slabs followed by Rabbit’s Trod (Gillercombe Crag). The day started with venturing off the path and straight into SourmilkGill, which was the perfect choice for the hot day with beautiful waterfalls and full of clear water to cool down with.

A couple of more exposed sections near the top, made for an exciting morning.

Rabbits Trod, was a great grade 2 scramble with excellent views of the surrounding area.

The day was topped off by a quick summit of Grey Knotts and a group pic before descending back into the valley in search of a shower and the pub! A hearty meal out was enjoyed by most on Saturday evening, we managed to escape before the pub got too rowdy with the England quarter final being shown.

A leisurely start to Sunday was enjoyed before we headed out to the crag. Vanessa, Adam, Mark and Holly focussed on some skills on a quiet Upper Shepherds crag. While Nardia enjoyed her first climbing experience, Boris was getting stuck in as usual, thanks to Rob for his support and help.

Thanks to all that came and to the weather gods for the sunshine. Shout out to Nardia for her first club trip and getting stuck in, we hope to see you again soon!
