Peterborough Mountaineering Club was founded in 1954. This meant that 2024 was its 70th anniversary. So, it was planned that the June 2024 cottage meet would be the anniversary meet. On previous significant anniversary meets there has been a mass ascent of Tryfan, and we did the same again. We had 12 people in total on the summit together toasting the club with champagne. Various routes of ascent where used. The North ridge was of course the most popular. Some decided to make this much harder by doing the Cottage Skyline. Two did the classic rock climb, First Pinnacle Rib from Heather Terrace.
The Cottage Skyline profile is to be found hanging on the wall in the Barn. It’s a long one-day route following the two skyline ridges which can be seen from the club hut i.e. the Carneddau and Glyderau ranges.
There was also another group who went climbing in LLanberris Pass They did the route Dives and Better Things.
When everyone was back at the hut we had a wonderful BBQ. This was followed by a piece of anniversary cake. You can see from the picture was made to look like the cottage.
On the Sunday the weather was not good in Snowdonia. So, most people went to Castle Inn Quarry. This is a sport climbing area with very easy access just off the A55. A good range of routes was climbed by the people who went
