On the first May Bank holiday weekend of 2024 PMC and WMC had an amazing Novice/Family weekend.
There were plenty of members in attendance. Two groups went out Saturday one group climbed on Tryfan Fach while the others followed a 6-mile walking route led by Mark B around Beddgelert and the Sygun Copper Mine. A successful day for everyone with the rain holding off.
The weather was improving which meant Saturday evening saw everyone sharing the warmth of the firepit in the garden and masterfully grilled food over the BBQ along with tasty beverages over tales of adventures.
Sunday saw almost everyone head out to Tremadog Upper Tier for a full day of climbing in the sunshine, with some joining later. It was particularly inspiring to see the talented youngsters tackling their first routes at Tremadog with an impressive display of skills and courage. They were supported by everyone in the group with warm encouragement. Thanks to Alex, Spod, Mike, Mark B, Mark M & Lynsey for some great route and location suggestions not to mention hauling gear, setting up bomber anchors, providing belays and encouraging guidance.
By 6pm we were all finished climbing and having enjoyed the day together we headed in convoy to Porthmadog for Fish and Chips on Black Sands Beach to watch a beautiful sunset and cool tired feet in the ocean.
A few stayed on till Monday to catch the rest of the good weather for more swimming and climbing with the rest of us heading back to avoid the inevitable bank holiday traffic.
It was a superb weekend enjoyed by all with lots of new friends, Everyone agreed to do it again soon and we hope to see more families and novice members join us next time.
